was much different in atlanta this afternoon. police are now investigating a stabbing in the parking lot after the game. it happened around 3:40 california time outside georgia dome. a 49ers fan stabed a falcons fan in the neck after being punched. the victim is 35 years old. paramedics rushed him to the hospital. he is expected to survive. police have not made any arrests at this point. >>> well, this year's super bowl has some serious sibling rivalry. that's because as you possibly know, the head coaches are brothers and they are about to make history. jim harbaugh will take on his older brother john who coaches the baltimore ravens. the two faced each other on thanks giving in 2011. and that was the first time two brothers coached against each other in the nfl. well, the ravens won that game. now, the two will face-off again and make history in the process. this will be the first time two brothers have ever faced each other as head coaches in the super bowl. jim harbaugh, of course, also has bay area roots. he graduated from palo alto high school. >>> talk about a comeback victory tod

"today in the bay." >> an update to breaking news near atlanta where four children are dead after a duplex caught fire. the children ranged in age from 8 months to 7 years. we have learned a 6-year-old child survived with no serious injuries after his mother threw him from the second floor window to safety. the mother, however, was severely burned and is now recovering at an atlanta hospital. the children's grandmother managed to make it out of the home without injury. the cause of the devastating fire is under investigation. >> also new this morning, san francisco police now investigating an overnight shooting and stabbing in a neighborhood. the stabbing happened before 3:15 this morning on connecticut street. the victim was stabbed in the chest but is expected to survive. nobody so far is under arrest. almost two hours earlier police responded to a shooting down the street near connecticut and 25th. the victim was shot in the foot. he's now in the hospital. he is expected to survive. so far no suspects have been arrested. >> 6:04. maritime officials want regulations for ships mo

they are now champions of the entire world. >> it was so stressful. fresh off the big win over atlanta, players arrived home late last night and dozens of fans were there to welcome home the nfc champs. the player buses returned to the team's practice facility in santa clara about 11:45 last night. look at that homecoming. you can see fans waving to them as buses pass by. >> sharing the love out there. the players drove out so without coming out to meet the fans though a few fans we talked so they got high fives through the open windows of the cars. the coaching staff back to work this morning at the santa clara facility to start preparing for the game against the baltimore ravens in that super bowl. >> how did we get here? through a comeback win in atlanta. the niners didn't score until the second quarter. they headed to the locker room down 24-14 at the half. they scored in the third. with a little dance. in the fourth quarter, frank gore ran it in for the go-ahead touchdown. niners win 28-24. after the game players say it's a great win but their work is not done. >> we're going to enjoy it a

. they have a date with those atlanta falcons in the nfc championship one victory away from the super bowl. the falcons pulling off a last-minute win over the seahawks just yesterday. the final score after that kick, 30-28 in the closing seconds. the niners mean time riding high after a monster win over green bay. check out colin kaepernick. the cat was doing it all, setting a record running and throwing all over the packers. his postseason record or actually nfl record overall, 14 carries, 183 yards rushing. he leads the niners to a 45-31 win. and that was after an opening touchdown pass he threw for the wrong team was picked off, gave the packers the lead there, 7-0. colin kaepernick on fire from that points on. now the falcons will see if they can keep it going against the niners, taking on the football field in atlanta. this sunday at noon. make sure to mark your calendars. go 49ers. and giants, they've wrapped up a world championship, kicked off a tour of the 2010 trophies. fans check that out. today the trophy headed to the richmond memorial auditorium from 3:00 to 5:00 this afternoo

york city later today, warming up significantly across the south for near 70 degrees in atlanta, 36 however in denver and only 13 in billings. so here's the winter weather and more spring-like weather for the eastern states. and it stays mild here all weekend long. on saturday next storm swings through with a chance of showers across the mississippi valley. snow for the high plains. notice where the coldest air is where you see the shades of pink on the map. 19 in minneapolis on saturday. and look at these numbers across the east for saturday and sunday. we stay mild ahead of this cold front. so we've got 71 in atlanta, 74 in new orleans. but cooling off in louisville, chicago, all the way down to 30. big day in atlanta as the falcons take on the seahawks. of course a lot of people tailgating for that. on monday more rain expected here across the east. and we'll see some of the showers move into the northeast and temperatures slowly starting to come down by early next week. and we're getting a lot quieter across the west. so not tracking any winter storms in that direction. remember

occasionally. no accumulation expected. still 60 in atlanta. here comes that cold wedge of air getting a lot colder by the end of the week. 38 in chicago, 26 in minneapolis today. and above this cold front that's where some of your colder air is going to be behind the front, i should say. and then another system, another burst of energy that comes through the southeast brings a chance of snow actually into places like atlanta by thursday. something to keep an eye on. lighter snow possible into tennessee and even back through mississippi and alabama. so we'll be watching that one closely here at the weather channel. 42 degrees by thursday in atlanta, nearly 20 degrees colder. 28 in chicago. only 17 in minneapolis. we're still pretty mild as the air builds back in across the southern plains. 55 in dallas, 60 in houston. how about 73 in los angeles. another clipper system moves through on friday. we're quieting down across much of the east but that will bring light scattered snow across the great lakes and into the upper midwest here. that will be the trend on saturday also. looking dry for the

are expected in atlanta later this morning and eventually this ann right up in the big cities of the northeast. as far as the west coast pretty quiet. high pressure slowly trying to build in. still kind of the clouds and moisture falling in here to the northwest and the jet stream and will continue with showers and a little bit of elevation snow. not at that lot. i-5 north of portland biggest concentration of some of those showers and light rain. the forecast today, a few chances of showers and wet weather. not too bad in the northwest. beautiful sunshine, little bit on the chilly side, phoenix, vegas to ntain snow at least in california in the near term. besides the big storm in our country, australia still dealing with their dangerous flooding after the cyclone that truck. forced 4700 people from their homes. 1,000 people had to be rescued by helicopter. no power in most region. be careful about the drinking water. when you rescue people by helicopter you know it's serious. >> we can i've with that. how long will this last? couple more days? >> have to wait for the rivers to recede. >> thank
